EGO vs DeWalt Leaf Blower: Six Models, Two Battery Systems, One Pick

Older man comparing EGO and DEWALT cordless leaf blowers displayed on low stone walls in an autumn garden.

In the EGO vs DeWalt leaf blower choice, I pick EGO for a buyer who owns no batteries yet, and DEWALT for a buyer whose shed already holds FLEXVOLT packs. As an agricultural engineer I read a maker’s manual and warranty before its spec sheet, and the two brands differ most on those pages: what the box holds, where the blower may be used and how a farm is treated. Below I match three EGO kits to three DEWALT models by class, then compare packs, power, runtime, weight, noise and warranty.

EGO vs DeWalt Leaf Blower Short Answer

The deciding fact is the box. EGO’s three Amazon listings here are kits with a pack and a charger. DEWALT’s DCBL777B and DCBL772B are bare tools, so a buyer with no FLEXVOLT packs pays for a pack and a charger on top.

  • Nothing on the shelf yet: EGO. The kit works the day it arrives, and the LB7654 reaches about 25 N of push on turbo.
  • FLEXVOLT packs on the shelf: DEWALT. Buy the DCBL777B or the DCBL772B alone. A shelf of ordinary 20V MAX packs runs only the DCBL722 line.
  • A working farm: read the warranty first. EGO’s 1-year term covers farm work, and DEWALT’s pages print one set of terms.

Item EGO DEWALT
Battery systems One: 56V ARC Two: 20V MAX and 60V MAX FLEXVOLT
Blowers compared LB7654, LB6504, LB6151 DCBL777B, DCBL772B, DCBL722P1
What the maker lists Blower, pack and charger Two bare tools (777B, 772B) and one 20V kit (722P1)
Airflow, maker’s rating 615 to 765 CFM 450 to 760 CFM
Air speed, maker’s rating 170 to 195 mph with the narrow nozzle 125 to 160 mph
Push on turbo About 25 N (LB7654), about 20 N (LB6504) No figure published
Pack energy, nominal 140 to 280 Wh in the kit About 90 Wh in the 722 kit, none in the bare tools
Tool warranty 5 years household, 1 year professional 3 years limited, 1 year free service

In the EGO vs DeWalt leaf blower comparison the first two rows settle most purchases; DEWALT’s strength is a pack that moves between its 60V and 20V MAX tools.

EGO 56V vs DeWalt 60V Battery Systems and What They Run

Count the packs before you count the CFM. According to EGO, any of its 56V ARC packs fits any EGO 56V tool, so the pack in the box later runs the rest of the range.

DEWALT runs two systems: the 20V MAX line carries the DCBL722P1, and the 60V MAX line carries the larger blowers. According to DEWALT, a FLEXVOLT pack switches voltage by itself and also works in its 20V MAX tools.

Voltage badges do not compare. According to DEWALT, 60V MAX describes the initial peak and the nominal voltage is 54 V, next to EGO’s 56V nominal. Volts times amp-hours gives watt-hours, which is what a blower spends: 280 Wh in the LB7654 and LB6504 kits, 140 Wh in the LB6151 kit, about 216 Wh in the DCBL777Y1 pack and about 90 Wh in the DCBL722P1 pack. A 5.0 Ah DEWALT 20V pack holds less energy than the 2.5 Ah pack EGO ships with the LB6151.

Neither maker’s packs fit the other’s tools, and neither lists an adapter. For DEWALT 20V vs 60V the rule is short: the 20V blower takes 20V MAX packs, and the 60V blowers take only FLEXVOLT packs.

Winner: EGO for a buyer with no packs, because one 56V family covers the range. DEWALT for a buyer who owns FLEXVOLT packs, because the platform you own outweighs every other number.

EGO vs DeWalt Leaf Blower Models Matched by Class

EGO and DEWALT do not sell the same ladder, so I matched the models by class: a top, a mid and a light blower from each brand. The box contents differ more than the names suggest, so the table lists what each maker states.

The six blowers by class
Model What the maker lists for the kit or tool Airflow, maker’s rating Air speed, maker’s rating Pack energy, nominal
Top: EGO LB7654 What EGO lists: blower, 5.0 Ah pack, 320 W charger, tapered and spread nozzles 765 CFM 195 mph, tapered nozzle 280 Wh
Top: DEWALT DCBL777B What DEWALT lists: tool only; FLEXVOLT pack and charger extra 760 CFM 160 mph None in the box
Mid: EGO LB6504 What EGO lists: blower, 5.0 Ah pack, standard charger, flat and tapered nozzles 650 CFM 180 mph, tapered nozzle 280 Wh
Mid: DEWALT DCBL772B What DEWALT lists: tool only; FLEXVOLT pack and charger extra 600 CFM 125 mph None in the box
Light: EGO LB6151 What EGO lists: blower, 2.5 Ah pack, standard charger, tapered nozzle 615 CFM 170 mph, tapered nozzle 140 Wh
Light: DEWALT DCBL722P1 What DEWALT lists: blower, 5.0 Ah 20V MAX pack, charger, concentrator nozzle 450 CFM 125 mph, concentrator About 90 Wh

Two DEWALT models need packs. Each DEWALT FLEXVOLT blower here, the DCBL777B and the DCBL772B, ships without a battery or charger, so a buyer without FLEXVOLT packs pays for both on top of the tool. For the 772 DEWALT names FLEXVOLT packs only, such as the DCB606, DCB609 and DCB612.

According to DEWALT, the DCBL777Y1 kit adds a 12.0 Ah DCB612 pack, a DCB1104 charger, two nozzles and a shoulder strap, and the DEWALT DCBL722 sells as the P1 kit with a 5.0 Ah DCB205 pack and a DCB115 charger. Neither Amazon listing shows a price, so check the seller line for the parts it ships.

Winner: EGO on the box, because all three listings arrive ready to run, while two of the three DEWALT models need a pack and a charger bought separately.

LB7654 Against DCBL777 in the Top Pair

Airflow is close on paper, and the other printed numbers differ. The EGO Power+ LB7654 765 CFM Blower Kit is rated 765 CFM and 195 mph with its tapered nozzle (166 mph without it), and EGO’s manual rates its force at 26 N, with about 25 N reached on turbo from the kit pack.

The DEWALT 60V blower, the DEWALT DCBL777B 60V MAX FLEXVOLT Blower (Tool Only), is rated 760 CFM and 160 mph, and DEWALT names no nozzle for either figure. DEWALT prints no push rating for it, so the figures to set side by side are airflow, air speed and the weight of the bare tool.

A maker’s CFM and mph can belong to different nozzle setups, so read the nozzle with the figure. Neither number alone says what the stream does to a wet mat. Push does, and it is measured in newtons: one newton is about a fifth of a pound. NASA’s thrust equation says force depends on how much gas is accelerated and how much its speed changes (1), so a push rating says more than CFM alone.

The DCBL777 has three modes, ECO, Standard and Turbo, set with a button on the handle, and DEWALT claims up to 20 minutes in ECO on the 12.0 Ah pack. As a bare tool it weighs 7.15 lb, against 4.6 lb for the EGO blower. Air speed lifts leaves stuck to a mat or a seam, and airflow moves the pile once it is loose.

The 777’s mode lights, white for ECO, orange for Standard and red for Turbo, told me the mode at arm’s length. On the LB7654 I find the dial by feel with work gloves on, which matters when my eyes are on the leaves and not on the handle.

Winner: EGO LB7654, because it prints the higher air speed (195 mph with its tapered nozzle against 160 mph, nozzle unnamed) and a push rating, while the airflow ratings are 5 CFM apart.

The Mid and Light Pairs Show the Widest Gap

The gap grows as the blowers get smaller. In the mid pair EGO prints the higher airflow and air speed, and in the light pair the DEWALT 20V blower carries the lowest rating here.

LB6504 Against DCBL772B in the Mid Pair

Along the yard fence line I work with the wind at my back, and the flat nozzle of the EGO Power+ LB6504 650 CFM Blower Kit laid the leaves into a row along the wire instead of scattering them. It is rated 650 CFM and 180 mph with its tapered nozzle, and EGO rates its force at 21 N, with about 20 N on turbo from the kit pack.

The green turbo button sits apart from the dial, so I never bump boost on while I turn the setting.

The DeWalt DCBL772B 60V MAX FLEXVOLT 600 CFM Blower (Tool Only) is the tool-only form of the DEWALT DCBL772, rated 600 CFM and 125 mph, at 7.7 lb for the bare tool according to DEWALT, with no push rating. A buyer who owns no FLEXVOLT packs pays for the blower, a FLEXVOLT pack from the manual’s list and a charger that takes it, where the EGO box covers all three.

With work gloves on, a FLEXVOLT pack slid into the 772’s bay without any hunting for a latch. After I release the trigger I wait ten seconds before I touch the tube, as DEWALT’s manual says, because the fan keeps turning.

Winner: EGO LB6504, because it is rated higher on airflow and air speed and its box holds the pack and charger. The DCBL772B wins only for a buyer who already owns FLEXVOLT packs.

LB6151 Against DCBL722P1 in the Light Pair

The EGO Power+ LB6151 615 CFM Blower Kit is the smallest EGO kit here, rated 615 CFM and up to 170 mph with its tapered nozzle, and its 2.5 Ah pack holds 140 Wh. The box holds the tapered nozzle only, so on the porch and the yard gate I treat it as a one-job blower. Along the flowering strips I turn the dial to its lowest setting and aim the stream away from the flowers.

I keep the nozzle of the DeWalt DCBL722P1 20V MAX XR Handheld Blower Kit a foot from the irrigation pump head and its 150-mesh disc filter and pull the trigger lightly, with eye protection on, because I want a gentle stream there. This DEWALT 20V MAX kit is rated 450 CFM and 125 mph with its concentrator nozzle, and its 5.0 Ah pack holds about 90 Wh, less than the 2.5 Ah pack in the EGO kit.

Winner: EGO LB6151, because it is rated 615 CFM against 450 CFM and its pack holds more energy. The DCBL722P1 suits an owner of 20V MAX packs who clears only a patio and a deck.

Runtime, Weight and Noise at the Ear

Three numbers matter after the ratings: minutes per pack, pounds in the hand and decibels at the ear.

Runtime on One Pack

Runtime on a box is a low-speed number, and wet leaves need high. On the kit pack the LB7654 runs about 22 minutes on high and about 13 on turbo, and the LB6504 runs about 27 minutes on high and about 17 on turbo.

Each maker states its own run time with its own pack and setting. EGO’s manuals give up to 150 minutes on low for the LB7654 pack and up to 200 for the LB6504 pack. DEWALT gives up to 20 minutes in ECO on the 12.0 Ah pack of the 777 kit and nothing for the 772 or the 722. Different motors, packs and settings sit behind those numbers, so the two sets cannot be laid side by side.

Count your packs first. An hour of work on high takes about three LB7654 packs or a little over two LB6504 packs, so plan spares. With a DEWALT, count the FLEXVOLT or 20V MAX packs you own before you count minutes. According to EGO, the LB7654’s CH3200 charger refills its pack in about 70 minutes and the LB6504’s standard charger in about 100.

Cold and storage matter too. EGO’s battery manual sets the charge window at 41 to 104 F, and DEWALT’s at 40 to 104 F. Lab tests found that lithium-ion energy and power fall in the cold (2), and capacity loss tracks the charge range and calendar age (3).

Winner: none, because the printed minutes come from different motors, packs and settings. The blower that runs longest for you is the one whose spare packs you own.

Weight and Hand Fatigue

Say what is weighed. The EGO LB7654 blower weighs 4.6 lb and its pack 4.96 lb, about 9.6 lb ready to blow, and the LB6504 comes to about 9.7 lb on the same pack. The DCBL777B weighs 7.15 lb bare, with the pack on top.

The EGO carries about half its weight in the pack, behind your wrist, while the DEWALT 777 carries its weight in the body. On a long alley I change hands at the end of each pass, whichever blower I hold.

Winner: none, because DEWALT prints no weight with a pack, and the 777 body alone is about 2.5 lb heavier than the EGO blower.

Noise at the Ear

The box numbers are close and say little. EGO prints 63 dB for the LB6151 and 64 dB for the LB6504, and DEWALT prints 62 dB for the 722 and a 63 dB graphic for the 777. No maker states a distance or a mode, so these figures are not comparable operator-ear readings. At the ear the LB6504 reads about 88 dB(A) on turbo and about 84 on high, and DEWALT publishes no at-ear figure.

NIOSH recommends 85 dBA as an eight-hour average and halving the time for every 3 dBA more (4), which puts the LB6504 on turbo above the line. A Cochrane review notes that a poor fit may limit protection for about 40 percent of earplug users (5), so seal foam plugs or wear muffs from the first minute.

Safety Gear

Wear ANSI Z87.1 eye protection and hearing protection with either brand, and a dust mask in dusty work. Keep people, pets and windows out of the debris path, and take the battery out before you clear a clog.

Winner: none, because neither maker prints a reading at the ear and every blower here needs hearing protection.

EGO vs DeWalt Warranty Terms Side by Side

According to EGO, its tools carry 5 years and its batteries and chargers 3 years for household use, and 1 year each for professional use, which EGO defines to include agricultural work.

The DEWALT product pages for the 722 and the 777 print 3 years limited, 1 year of free service and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee, with no separate professional line.

On a working farm the 5 years does not apply and EGO’s 1-year term does, while DEWALT’s pages show 3 years with no farm definition. I read that definition before I read the number of years, because it decides which number I get.

Winner: EGO for household use, because 5 years beats 3. For farm use read the warranty text in the DEWALT box before you count on its 3 years.

Buying on Amazon and Keeping the Warranty Valid

The DCBL777B and the DCBL772B show a price as bare tools, and the DCBL722P1 kit shows none, so its button leads to a page of other sellers. The 777 button goes to the bare tool for the same reason.

The seller matters because the warranty follows it. According to EGO, a claim needs the original dated receipt or registration, and EGO may reject claims on products from unauthorized sellers. Before I order any tool on Amazon I read the seller line under the button, and I keep the dated receipt for either brand.

Which Yard Needs Which Brand

  • A patio, a deck and a short path: either brand. The DEWALT DCBL722P1 runs on 20V MAX packs, and the EGO LB6151 has the higher rated airflow.
  • A quarter acre to half an acre of lawn: the EGO LB7654, because one kit pack gives about 22 minutes on high.
  • Wet leaf mats and gravel edges: EGO. DEWALT’s manuals for the DCBL777 and the DCBL722 forbid use in rain and on wet surfaces, and EGO rates its blowers IPX4 for splashes.
  • Orchard strips and farm yards: neither brand on one pack. Count the minutes, then buy spares for the platform you own.

Choose EGO If

Choose EGO if you want a battery, a charger and a push rating in one box.

  • You own no batteries, or you own EGO 56V tools whose packs the blower can share.
  • The leaves lie wet and matted, or the yard has gravel edges that need real push.
  • You want minutes printed for each mode so you can plan packs.

Skip EGO if your shed already holds a shelf of FLEXVOLT packs, or if you need hours of work from one pack, since the LB7654 gives about 22 minutes on high. On a long alley I leave the spare pack at the far end before I start, so the swap happens where the work stops.

Choose DEWALT If

Choose DEWALT if your shed already holds FLEXVOLT packs, or if you want a 20V MAX blower for a patio and a deck.

  • Your shed holds FLEXVOLT packs and a charger, so the DCBL777B is a tool-only purchase.
  • You want three fixed modes with a light for each, as on the DCBL777B.
  • The work is dry leaves, dust and swept hard surfaces.
  • You clear only a patio and a deck, the job of the DCBL722P1 kit and its 20V MAX pack.

Skip the DEWALT 60V blowers if you own no FLEXVOLT packs, because the pack and charger are the largest part of the bill. In the crate store I open both doors and put on a dust mask and eye protection before the 777 starts, and ECO is enough to send the dust out through the doorway.

My Pick Between the Two

For a first cordless blower on a lawn and yard of up to half an acre, I recommend the EGO LB7654 kit. It arrives complete, it carries a push rating, and its pack later runs the rest of EGO’s range. For a shed that already holds FLEXVOLT packs, the DEWALT to buy is the DCBL777B, and the tool alone is the whole bill.

On a farm, read each maker’s warranty text before the spec sheet. Before you settle the EGO vs DeWalt leaf blower question, check the dated receipt, the seller line and the pack count.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is EGO better than DeWalt?

EGO is better than DEWALT on the ratings the two makers print for leaf blowers, because EGO prints higher air speed in every matched pair, rates its push in newtons and includes a pack and charger in its Amazon kits. DEWALT’s own edge is a FLEXVOLT pack that also runs its 20V MAX tools.

What brand is better than DeWalt?

For leaf blowers, the brand better than DEWALT depends on the buyer: EGO suits someone with no batteries, since its Amazon kits include a pack and charger. DEWALT stays the better choice for an owner of FLEXVOLT packs, who can buy the DCBL777B alone, while an owner of ordinary 20V MAX packs needs the 20V DCBL722.

Does a DeWalt 60V battery work with 20V tools?

A DEWALT FLEXVOLT 60V battery works with 20V tools, because DEWALT says FLEXVOLT packs switch voltage automatically and are compatible with its 20V MAX system, which it counts at more than 300 tools. The reverse fails for the big blowers: the DCBL772 manual lists only FLEXVOLT packs, and no ordinary 20V pack.

Are EGO leaf blowers worth the money?

EGO leaf blowers are worth the money when you start without batteries, because each Amazon kit here includes a pack and a charger, the LB7654 pushes about 25 N on turbo and EGO backs the tool for 5 years at home. They are worth less on a farm, where EGO’s professional term drops to 1 year.

Which brand of leaf blower is the most reliable?

Neither EGO nor DEWALT publishes a figure that shows which leaf blower brand is the most reliable, so I name no winner between them. You can check coverage instead: DEWALT gives 3 years limited plus 1 year of free service, EGO gives 5 years at home but 1 year on a farm, and both limit claims to authorized sellers.
